The Light Side

Posted by Garth on Saturday, August 29, 2009

I was going to call this post "The Dark Side", but realistically I've probably been supporting the Dark Side since I began computing.  Not that I want this to turn into a theological monologue, but suffice it to say that I'm going Mac.

It turns out that my lovely HP TX2000z had a fatal flaw - heat.  Combined with Thailand's not-so-cool weather, it died a miserable death on me.  3 months after the warranty expired.  Luckily it was purchased using my lovely sister's Amex which provided with an additional 1 year warranty.  After jumping through a number of hoops to get my laptop back to the US and into some sort of repair center, Amex has called me and told me that it's not cost effective for them to fix it since both the motherboard and CPU are fried, so they're reimbursing me the full purchase price.  Yee Haw!  So after much research and internal debate, I've decided to go Mac since it's more versatile.  Bootcamp if necessary, but a lot more flexibility than I'd have with a Windows machine.  Not to mention it'll be a nice change of scenery.

So there you have it.  Yet another convert (theoretically).  There's no telling whether I'll like it or not, but what the hell... it's worth a shot.

This makes me a bit sad -- mostly because i got a mac for work in november and have been less then impressed. I should blog about this but I fear the wrath of 800000 mac fan boys
