How is it possible that a format which has essentially become a world-wide standard across multiple computing platforms sucks so bad.

1. As a reader (not author) there's no facility to set a bookmark within an active document. I'm talking about an electronic document format and reader app that's on its 8th iteration, and never has this facility existed. I can't think of another electronic document format that doesn't support this. Doc, lit, chm... They all support bookmarking. It's really no wonder e-books haven't taken off when PDF is the format of choice for authors. Give me a .lit any day.

2. Fonts. Why the hell does a document that I create with a custom font not display this font on another computer? Embed the font in the PDF or convert any text using that font to an image (though this method would still require maintaining an index of the original text for searching, otherwise I may as well just convert entire documents to PNG). At least give me an option when I'm creating it. Or give me a warning that some fonts may not display properly on other computers. Though the latter is pretty weak.

Seriously though, how can such a crappy format be so popular? It boggles the mind. Well, mine anyway.
